The Best Personal Branding Examples: My 5 Favorite Influencers
In an online world where anyone can create a business or brand, I believe in taking cues from some of the best in the business. No I’m not suggesting that you simply copy or regurgitate what is already being done, rather that you should observe and learn. I’d like to share with you 5 of my favorite examples of personal branding and each of their key takeaways about personal branding that you can put to use.
1. Chip and Joanna Gaines
Okay, okay, I know these two are loved by millions but it’s for a good reason: they do personal branding right. Their brand, Magnolia, centers around the couple but encompasses so much more. You probably know their TV show, maybe you’ve visited the Silos, or perhaps you’ve wandered by their home decor line in Target. Even if you don’t recognize their faces, their brand has probably made its way into your life in some aspect–and that’s why they’ve made this list.
The Takeaway: These two are stellar examples of how important being genuine and real is when it comes to building a personal brand.
2. Marie Forleo
Take one look at Marie’s website, and you’ll already start to love her. Aside from the fact that she’s beautiful and charming, the plethora of free resources she offers to those looking to up their creative and entrepreneurial skills prove that she truly cares about helping others succeed. You want to be her friend and listen to what she has to say.
The Takeaway: Marie makes real connections and gives whenever she can. While building your own brand, help others and be ultra generous.
3. Gary Vaynerchuk
If you’re looking for an interesting read, check out Gary Vaynerchuk’s story. He puts it all out there, and let’s get real, it’s made him millions. I love to tune into his daily show where he answers questions his followers submit through Instagram and Twitter “in his typical unrehearsed, off the cuff manner.” (That’s from his site–I couldn’t have said it any better.)
The Takeaway: If there’s anything I’ve learned from Gary Vee, it’s that transparency is an effective way to grow your following.
4. Hilary Rushford
The first time I saw one of Hilary’s social media ads for a free instagram master class, I was hooked. Her images, her content–it spoke to me, and I’ve followed her ever since. She won me over on the very first exposure, and if that isn’t impressive, I’m not sure what is. I have been consistently impressed at how seriously she takes finding and targeting the audiences she knows needs her content.
The Takeaway: Hilary has taken the time to nail down exactly how to capture the attention of her specific audience, and you should too.
5. The Alison Show
Alison is the queen of personal branding, I mean, she gave herself her own show. I remember the first time that I saw Alison on social media, she was hosting these wild all-women dance parties. Then she was teaching us all how to make amazing sugar cookies, and now she runs a Brand School and hosts an uplifting and hilarious podcast with her husband. Whatever she’s doing, she owns it, and she’s never seemed afraid of tweaking her model to match what is driving her in the moment.
The Takeaway: Alison IS her brand. Find what makes you and run with it. (And if what makes you happens to change, your brand can and should change too.)
