Still coming off the HIGH from attending Brendon Burchard’s INFLUENCER2019 with 2300 aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs last weekend but I wanted to talk about something that I’ve really struggled with in the past and something that recently hurt my feelings.

I built an incredible class to help people clarify their personal brand, position themselves correctly, and have the confidence to use their real brand voice to market themselves authentically. But as wonderful as the experience was, I’d be lying if I didn’t share the moments that launching this baby in the world didn’t hurt too. And after some reflection and mindfulness work, I realize that my hurt stemmed from MONEY.
Let’s Talk About Money
Our relationship with money is so complicated and profound that I won’t even attempt to go into the in’s and out’s of why we as a society often feel immense shame for wanting more.
It doesn’t make sense!
We all want financial freedom but we stress the freak out when pricing ourselves, our services, our products, and feel terrible if someone doesn’t buy from us like it’s a reflection of our own personal value. I find this truer when selling something as VERONICA ROMNEY vs. when I sell for my agency, ModernMarca, or when I was selling on behalf of my previous employers. I mean companies have hard costs like rent, utilities, expenses, payroll, insurance, etc. to justify higher markups but if you’re a solopreneur or aspiring personal brand, your costs to run your business are much lower so you worry people will judge you for your prices and accuse you of being greedy.
You know what I say…

Here’s the TRUTH about human psychology in relation to when you give something out for free:
If you don’t pay, you won’t pay attention
I can’t say this any louder or with more conviction! How do I know this?? Because it just happened!
I gave the Bootcamp out for free to just a handful of people in my personal life that I wanted to help and love on and for very individual circumstances, I extended a free seat. These are amazing people. They were before the Bootcamp and they still are to me after the Bootcamp but I need you to know this reality so you can free yourself of guilt and shame:
The students who paid the MOST showed up the MOST.
Every class LIVE, every homework assignment turned in. Fully engaged, fully committed, and fully open to being transformed by their investment. They had more on the line and that pushed them to do more. And, of course, their transformational testimonials speak for themselves.
Contrast that to those who got the class for free. They didn’t show up for every class, they didn’t turn in their homework, and I’m not entirely sure they finished watching the Bootcamp videos.
Again, great people that I deeply care about but if they miss a class, there’s no skin off their back. It’s not intentional, it’s just such a subconscious thing that happens but it’s very real. So now hear me when I say this:
IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE LIVES
YOU CHARGE FOR THE LIFE-CHANGING KNOWLEDGE
Do NOT do your customers, clients, followers, avatars the massive disservice of not setting them up for success. I have seen people move mountains to afford something that they feel can be life-changing. It is not our job to stress whether or not someone can afford our services. Our job is to serve with a FULL heart and provide as much value in the world as possible. The more you need your people to engage in their life-changing transformations, the more you need to charge. There has to be more pressure and more at stake to push us through when life gets in the way because it will and does.
We shouldn’t create for profit but rather create for purpose and we make the money so we can sustain the message.
